Extension of Visa Fee Validity

The U.S. Department of State understands that many visa applicants have paid the visa application processing fee and are still waiting to schedule a visa appointment. We are working diligently to restore all routine visa operations as quickly and safely as possible. In the meantime, rest assured that U.S. Missions will extend the validity of your payment (known as the MRV fee) until December 31, 2021, to allow all applicants who were unable to schedule a visa appointment as a result of the suspension of routine consular operations an opportunity to schedule and/or attend a visa appointment with the already paid fee. Please continue to monitor this site for information on when we will return to routine visa operations.

Welcome, U.S. Nonimmigrant Visa Applicants

You are at the official nonimmigrant (temporary) visa information and appointment website for the U.S. Embassy in Albania.

Important Information for Student Applicants

Beginning October 1, 2020, the U.S. Embassy will resume processing of student and exchange visitor visa applications for programs that have already commenced, or that will commence within the next 120 days. Applicants may apply or adjust their current appointments at the Global Support Services (GSS) Website: https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-al/niv, by signing in, clicking Continue, selecting the option to Reschedule Appointment, and following the provided instructions.

Please check the program start date listed on your I-20 or DS-2019:

  • Do not schedule an interview until you are within 120 days of your official program start date.
  • If the program start date has already passed, or if it is not possible to schedule an interview prior to that date, then your visa cannot be issued. You must immediately contact the designated school official or responsible officer listed on your form (I-20, or DS-2019) and request that they enter a new program start date in the SEVIS system. If this action is not completed before the visa interview, the processing of your visa will be delayed, and a visa cannot be issued until a valid program start date appears in SEVIS.
  • Please note that all scheduled visa applicants must wear a face covering upon arrival and follow health guidelines to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Please monitor our website for further updates. For questions about applying, please visit the GSS website: https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-al/niv/information/faqs.
